AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT COMMANDANT:

Dan Akee, 94, of Tuba City, AZ served as a Navajo Code Talker with the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Code Talker Akee passed away on Friday Morning Oct 14, 2016.  "It wasn't so much the bullets and the guns and the tanks that won the war, it was the language that was utilized to transmit messages" said Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye.

This is a tragedy to those of us in the Marine Corps League here in Arizona and comes a little over a month after the passing of Navajo Code Talker Joe Kellwood. No arrangements have been made but if and when I hear of any arrangements, I will ensure that the Department members are informed.  Please keep these heroes in your thoughts and your prayers.
