The 2010 Arizona Marine Corps League Department Convention Dates Announced

James and Marcy Trupe, Co-Chairmen of the Host Saguaro Detachment 554 Convention Committee are pleased to announce the 2010 Arizona Department Convention will be held June 4-6 at the Dobson Ranch Inn, Best Western Hotel and Resort, 1666 South Dobson Road, Mesa, Arizona, 85202, 800-528-1356. The Committee’s primary focus this year is to provide a first rate convention experience at the best price possible, considering the status of our economy. We want to make Convention attendance affordable and enjoyable to everyone.

STANDARD ROOMS: All rooms are non-smoking. Rooms are very large and are furnished with one King or 2 Queen beds, hard-wired Internet, a coffee maker, large TV, frig, iron and ironing board and hair dryer. All rooms were completely remodeled this past summer and feature new carpeting and furnishings. Convention room rates for a Standard room are $50.00 per night. Considering these rooms rent for $130.00 during the busy season, and the normal group rate in summer is $58.00, our $50.00 Convention rate is an extraordinarily good value.

EXECUTIVE SUITES:  Executive Suites include a King bed, all the Standard Room amenities and furnishings, and a Queen sized sofa bed. The Convention rate for Executive Suites has been set at $55.00 per night, which is also an exceptional value.

RESERVATION INFORMATION: Refer to Group Number 804347 when making reservations. Room charges as stated do not include a 12% hotel tax. Rates are based on double occupancy. For more than 2 people you will be charged an additional $5.00 fee per person per night. Rooms must be reserved with a guest name and payment guarantee absolutely no later than 5/1/10 to guarantee these exceptional rates. To reserve your room(s) please call 800-528-1356 toll free. Locally, call 480-831-7000.

MEETING AGENDA:  Friday, 4 June, 2010: Early hotel check-in has been arranged at 1400. All Friday afternoon meetings are scheduled to be held in the Palo Verde Room. (Please refer to the map below.) We have arranged for speedy dual check-ins in the Main Lobby. You will be able to check into the Hotel and the Convention in the same room within a few minutes and continue on to your meetings.

  • The Commandant’s Council will convene at 1430

  • The Board of Trustee’s Meeting convenes at 1630

  • The Growl is scheduled at 1900; Pups at 1830

Saturday, 5 June, 2010: The General meeting will be conducted from 0800 to 1500 in the Posada III Banquet Center.

Sunday, 6 June, 2010:  Officer’s Meeting from 0800 to 0930 in Posada III.

Additionally, the nominating and MOY Committees will meet either Friday or Saturday. Time and place have not been decided as of this report.

LOCATION: The Dobson Ranch Inn is extremely easy to find. Turn south on Dobson Road off Superstition Freeway (60) and take the first right hand turn into the facility. The property actually abuts the freeway.

MEALS:  Friday guests will be given a coupon allowing them to dine in the main restaurant and receive a substantial savings off the menu prices. Saturday lunch will be served in the adjoining Posada II banquet Room during a break in the General Meeting.

SATURDAY BANQUET:  Guests will have 3 menu selections; Fish, Chicken or beef. The Banquet price has not yet been established, but we are assured the meals will be reasonable and affordable. I have attended banquets previously at the Dobson Ranch inn and found the food and service to be very good.

AREA ATTRACTIONS: The Dobson Ranch Inn is centrally located to four major shopping malls including Fiesta mall, Superstition Springs Mall, Chandler Fashion Square, and Arizona Mills Mall. It’s within a half mile of the Dobson Ranch Golf Course pictured here. Located in Mesa, it’s also easily accessible to Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert and Apache Junction, AZ.

FOR MORE INFORMATION:  Please feel free to call us, at:

480-217-9356 (cell) or 480-219-6906 (residence).

Be sure to check back here often as Convention updates will be posted here first.
